Upcoming events

October 14, 2009 · 2 Comments

While the burritos technically cease at 9pm on Friday, October 16, we do have a few events scheduled for you to keep in mind:

Saturday, October 31: Pheasant season opens, so we’ll be doing a breakfast burrito buffet for hunters from 6am-9am!

Saturday, November 14: Beer Education Project tasting: temperature study–it sounds dry and studious, but it will actually be a fun tasting to attend!

Saturday, November 21: The Opera House Ball: our nutty way of raising money to help restore Corning’s historic opera house, we’ll have a cash bar serving Iowa beers and a free-will donation for Rocky Mountain Oysters. Creative black tie encouraged.

Thursday, December 10: Private Party.

Saturday, December 12: Beer Education Project tasting: holiday beers!

As you can see, we already have folks interested in using our space for their holiday parties. Let us know what you have planned, and check the foyer at the Burrito for available dates. We’ll get a calendar posted within the next week or two, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll get all that info posted online.

We’ll be sampling and discussing the Oktoberfest style of beer, with three beers coming from Germany and three brewed right here in Iowa. We’ll get a history lesson, tasting notes and a good deal of fun.

The Hood, Part 2

April 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

If you were floating around town last week (Tuesday and Wednesday), you might have noticed grander work being done at 626 Davis Avenue.

Our hood, fans and “stuff” arrived Tuesday morning. Much noise, welding, screwing and lifting later, a group of volunteers gathered in the late afternoon to help hoist it through the window. Wednesday saw more action with a rented crane placing the fans on the roof, and the final details managed before sunset.

Now, it’s a matter of scheduling the Ansul hookup, and an electrician to electrify the beast. The former is set for Thursday, and the latter, after some doing, should be scheduled later today.

Sorry, no pictures just yet. My camera hit the pavement last week and I have yet to upload photos from a borrowed picture-taker.

The end (or should I say beginning?) is nigh. Please be patient. I’m ordering product all this week and hope to be in the kitchen soon. If you think you (and the whole community, from what I hear) are eager, you ought to be in my shoes.

I’m ready. The building is almost ready…

Putting Electricity into The AC

April 11, 2008 · 1 Comment

It’s no small coincidence that AC stands for alternating current, a reference to electricity.

Here we are living in The AC, getting ready to fire up Electric Burrito.

Heretofore, a well-kept secret, Adams County is a great place to live. Electrifying even. Every morning from my East-facing front porch, I watch sunrises that rival the sunsets I loved so much while living in Arizona. Everybody knows about the West’s sunsets, and New York’s Broadway and China’s Great Wall, but the charm of small, rural communities like this one have slipped under the radar.

The under-the-radarness is about to be in the past, as there are a lot of hard working individuals here calling attention to all our assets. If I have anything to say about it, Electric Burrito will be a solid component of the good life we live here.

A great place to find out what’s shaking in these parts is Adams County’s new website, as well as the attached blog. Since it’s important, I’ve got them placed in my sidebar, so their electricity’s easy to find when your busy looking at mine.
