We proved that last night in the first installment of The Beer Education Project.
Our intimate gathering of beer sippers worked their way through a dozen beers, with stylistic diversity and a very Iowa-centric beer list, which included one hard cider. Those that attended were rewarded with five surprises–each a different beer from Hub City Brewing Company, from Stanley, Iowa. Hub City joined our current lineup of Iowa brews, thanks to their recently-forged distribution arrangement. Look for a few of them to appear at the Burrito, starting later this week.
With an educational component that discussed the brewing process and ingredients involved, J.’s inner-teacher peeked through, with heaps of handouts and information. And beer. Golden, wheat, wit, brown, porter, stout, Vienna lager, Scottish ale, pale ale and cider. Lotsa good stuff and lotsa good feedback from our participants.
We look forward to next month’s Oktober-Fiesta tasting (October 13), as it will focus on a single beer style, allowing attendees to discern the nuances and differences of several Oktoberfest beers, some brewed in Germany and some brewed stateside.
With Number One in the history books, we’re now opening up registration for Oktober-Fiesta. Don’t procrastinate; stop in and sign up today.
Cost is $10. We’ll get started promptly at 7pm.
